Super Bowl Party

Super Bowl Information

Theme:
If the game itself isn't enough of a theme you could try team mascots.

Images and inspiration:
Football, NFL, field goal, player, national anthem, touchdown, helmet, scoreboard, cheerleader, plays, grass, statistics, mascot, pompom, TV commercials, stadium, team jersey, pennant, coach, medical tape, announcer, halftime, headphones, ice packs, scalper, playbook, band, hot dogs, soda and other refreshments.

Date and time:
The third or fourth Sunday in January.

Budget:
A big event at a rental facility will need a higher budget than an at home event, but think about hiring help, decorations, food, prizes and recording the event.

Location:
A location with the biggest television you can find.

Layout:
Have a tailgate party outside before the game. You could have someone act as a "scalper" trying to sell tickets outside. Have local kids tossing a football around out front, cheerleaders at the entry. Make a "go team" sign made out of paper that the team breaks through to enter the playing field (your entry). Turn a ping-pong table, or green tablecloth, into a football field to serve food from. Tie a blimp shaped balloon to hang over the field.

Record event:
Video the event, with an announcer announcing the line-up (guests) and doing the play by play party events.

Transportation:
You could rent a big bus and decorate it with the team logo on the side. Okay maybe that's over the top for the average party, but you could rent a van and put the logo's in the windows.

Costumes:
Football players, cheerleaders, trainers or announcers whichever you like.

Invitations:
Send invitations made out of felt in the shape of pennants or that look like Super Bowl tickets.

Decorate:
The big game must be on the TV! Lay some Astroturf on the floor. Replace furniture with team benches and lockers, okay maybe recliners are the way to go, don't forget the remotes too. A scoreboard might be nice to help keep score. Use Super Bowl posters, helmets, footballs, pompoms, megaphones, and team mascots and memorabilia. The table decor should include as much NFL stuff as you can find. Place a football on a kicking tee for the centerpiece. Placemats can be team pennants.

Food:
Hoagies, nachos, subs, poor boys, whatever you call them a BIG sandwich and beer. Okay maybe you can serve "hot dawgs"! Popcorn! or "Beah heah"! like the pro's at the stadiums do. Guests can bring a batch of chili, award a prize to the best. How about a sheet cake decorated like a football field with goal posts made out of straws. You could serve food on orange drink coolers and drinks in sports drink containers.

Activities:
Before the game have everyone fill out Super Bowl trivia questionnaires: who will sing national anthem, first commercial at halftime, who will score first, first sac, field goal...
Have guests team up and design their own halftime commercials that we should see.
Pass the bowl - Everyone puts a coin in a bowl, after each play the bowl is passed to the next person who either places another coin in the bowl or wins it's contents if a touchdown is scored, start over again.
You can of course have a pool to guess the winner of the game, who will win the coin toss, the next commercial ...
During the game you might want to hire some local kids to toss that popcorn and serve "hot dawgs" to your guests.

Gifts:
Football items, NFL or team items, fill a cooler with specialty beers, sports almanac, trading cards.

Favors and prizes:
A trophy to the MVG (most valuable guest), the one who had the highest score on the trivia game. Give awards for the best commercials. A big television or a recliner and remote would be a good prize. If your budget is a little smaller try footballs, team jerseys or custom imprinted items with guests information on them, pompoms, football protective gear, tabletop football, and a duct tape book.
The Prize Patrol should arrive and award a one million dollar big check and give balloons and flowers to some lucky guest and video record it as if they had really won.

Follow-up:
Make pretend tickets to Disney World with thank you's and pictures of the event incorporated into them.
