Mothers Day Information

When is it?
Mothers Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

Who celebrates it and where?
Anyone who has a Mom.

What is it?
Mothers Day is the celebration of mothers and motherhood.

Why did it get started?
Some date the celebration back to Greece. The first Mothers Day observance in the US was a church service held at Anna Jarvis request in West Virginia in 1908. Mothers Day was declared an official holiday in the US in 1914.

How do people celebrate it?
People give their Mom's a call, send flowers, visit them or send them gifts. People also visit the graves of their departed mothers.

What are the symbols?
There aren't any specific Mothers Day symbols, except giving gifts and your love and appreciation.

How can I celebrate it?
You can give your mother (or any mom you know) flowers, a card or a gift, visit her, or even better do some chores for her. You could serve her a wonderful homemade brunch or take her out to dinner. If your mother has passed, you can visit her gravesite and leave flowers, then take another special mom out for dinner.
