Why did it get started? May Day started as a holiday celebrating the beginning of summer. The festival of Beltane traditions were to set a new fire to honor the sun god and play games to test warriors skills. The festival of Floralia included bringing a tree trunk into town, dancing around it, decorating it as a maypole and crowning a May Day Queen. |

How do people celebrate it? Today in may countries, it has become a labor day holiday with parades and speeches. |

What are the symbols? The maypole is a symbol of fertility. |

How can I celebrate it? Have a festival celebrating the season with garlands, baskets with flowers and a maypole. Gather around a bonfire and sing songs, dance and have lots of food. |
