Easter Sunday Information

When is it?
Easter Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox.

Who celebrates it and where?
Catholics around the world.

What is it?
Easter Sunday is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Why did it get started?
Easter is the most important Christian holiday. Jesus Christ suffered, died and was buried on Good Friday. On the following Sunday his body was not in it's tomb, Jesus was resurrected. Easter Sunday ends the Lenten period.

How do people celebrate it?
People attend sunrise church services, wear new spring clothes, and hold Easter egg hunts for children.

What are the symbols?
The Easter bunny, Easter basket filled with a nest of eggs and the Easter lily.

How can I celebrate it?
You can attend a local sunrise church service, or have your own candy egg hunt. Give each child a basket or pail to collect slightly hidden eggs. Decorate hard boiled eggs with colored dyes then have an egg rolling contest.
