What is it? A day for promoting conservation and environmental awareness. |

Why did it get started? April 22, 1970 was the first observation of Earth Day, to bring attention to the need for cleaning up the earth's air and water. |

How do people celebrate it? Today people clean-up garbage along highways, begin recycling and promote conservation programs. |

What are the symbols? Our Mother Earth. The earth flag. The three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. |

How can I celebrate it? Wear an environmental button, hold a tree planting ceremony, walk or ride a bicycle to work, start a recycling program at your school or business. |
